Ok, so this is kind of the perfect post for me to write. As a proud owner of a shoe empire – a huge walk-in closet with a big shoe wall my fiancée always mocks me about-, I just can say “Shoes are a girl’s best friend.” Sorry Marilyn! So, when it comes to your wedding shoes, it is not like any shoe you have ever bought before. This shoes need to have it all: beauty, originality, wow-effect and last but not least comfort. Yes, comfort! You will be in those shoes for many hours, walking on different kinds of floors – fast walking, slow walking-, standing, dancing and so on…This shoes have to be a fit!
Once you have found the perfect dress, fabulous shoes follow. Yeeey, let´s go shoe-shopping! And please, it does not have to be a so called Wedding Shoe. You can get crazy! You can choose from ballerinas, pumps, dressy sandals, heels, flats…so many beautiful possibilities depending on the kind of shoe-person you are. If you are not 100% sure, it´s the perfect excuse to buy some more and decide which pair to wear after trying them out at home, in front of the mirror, dreaming of your big day. Just remember that you want your choice to reflect a silhouette that matches or complements your gown style as well as your personality.
Not that long ago brides were expected to wear white or ivory satin mid heel pumps to blend with the gown – yep, boring… Take your outfit to another level, you can wear blue Manolo Blahnik’s, Golden Jimmy Choo’s, Pink Stuart Weitzman’s, Beige Carolina Herrera’s, Louboutin’s, classic Ferragamo’s..…. I could go on forever. Match the color with your wedding flowers, for example. Color accents are beautiful in today’s weddings.
Little rule, not just for your wedding shoes, but any type of new shoes you want to wear to a party. For foot comfort, wear your shoes several times in advance. It’s hard to smile when your feet are hurting…I know, that´s why you have to use them before. Some brides bring a second pair of shoes for dancing at the reception, if necessary. And – for safety’s sake, score or sandpaper the soles of your shoes to avoid slipping. I have seen it all!
